These birds survive the winter by eating ripe Juniper berries. One study suggested they would need to eat between 42,000 and 84,000 juniper berries to survive the winter. Now that is a lot of berries.
Yours looks all puffed up and cute! I haven’t seen one of these since Spring! They sure eat a lot of berries!!
