Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, New Mexico

Sandhill Cranes flying,
Slowly, a full moon rises.
Distant gunshots heard.

These images were taken at the Bernardo state wildlife management area in New Mexico.

I think that where we were it was protected for us and the cranes, but we could hear gunshots echoing in the distance out along the river. 

The last of the leaves
yield their colors to bare branches,
winter and juncos.

A few Dark-eyed Juncos stay around all year, but they are always at higher elevations.  When the weather gets colder and winter is coming, that’s when the Juncos start appearing at my place.
