Beautiful images, Robert! I loved the Prairie Smoke and that would be a great place for the spider to hide, but I didn’t find it there. I think it’s a crab spider and possibly hiding from a perceived predator. I won’t spoil it for others. The Daylily is gorgeous.

I think that maybe you found it. Good eyes. Incidentally, however similar the seed heads might be, the plant is not Prairie Smoke, but Apache Plume, Fallugia paradoxa.
