They actually only weigh 0.39 OZ, They are very active at my feeders. Apparently, they will hide food and remember where it is hidden and go back and find their hidden caches at a later time.. Truly amazing creatures surviving in harsh winter conditions.
Above Lake Tahoe in the mountains there’s a place called Chick-a-dee Ridge there I’ve fed the Chick-a-dees by hand. I hope to get there this winter to do so again. I’ve been three times since I’ve moved here. They’re so light you barely feel them on your hand.
What a wonderful experience that must have been. I used to feed them here, but haven’t this year. Also, Pygmy and White-breasted Nuthatches have eaten from my hand here.
They are so cute, and very smart! How lovely that they come to your feeders.

I love these little guys. In past years, I’ve fed them out of my hand.
